Homemade Vapor Rub

  1. 1/4 cup of coconut oil
  2. 1/4 of shea butter (I use organic I found on Amazon)
  3. 20 drops of peppermint essential oil
  4. 15 drops of lavender essential oil
  5. 10 drops of lemon essential oil
  6. 25 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
  7. Clean jar or container that has a lid (make sure it’s not plastic) This batch was just enough for me to fill a pimento jar if that helps.
You could probably eliminate the shea butter if needed. I've made plenty of concoctions with just coconut oil and they work fine. Just keep in a cool place.

I used my electric whisk that came with my submersion blender to blend. Worked perfectly.

Ear & Eye Infection Concoction

The recipe for this is one drop of each behind ear and in front of ear canal in a U-shaped motion. I took an old oil container and did about 30 of each to have at the ready for my ear-infection prone family. Surprisingly this also worked for an eye infection we all got, I put under and on my eyelid and it cured it in a few applications..it was a monster infection. For the babies eye infection I put above their eyebrows and to the sides of their eyes right before giving them a bottle to avoid them rubbing in their eyes. I also did it after they fell asleep above their eyes too. It took another application or two, but cleared it up!

Pain Cream

This has helped me for cramps, plantar faciitus, and other little ailments. Put 5 drops of each into coconut oil and whip it. Store in a jar in a dark place. For plantar faciitus, I rub all on the bottom of my feet and then put socks on before going to sleep. Just FYI it helps some with PF - it's not a miracle cure. I does help with sore muscles, and some joint pain as well.

Sunscreen Spray

This is not waterproof FYI. You need beeswax for that, but I can't figure out how to make beeswax come through a spray bottle. Pls comment below if you know how to do this :) this spray works great for us for the park, zoo and other outdoor fun. I keep a small bottle in my diaper bag.

1 tbsp zinc oxide
Fill with fractionated coconut oil

Bug portion:
25 drops of peppermint oil & lavender oil
15 drops citronella oil

Note you will need to give it a shake before use. The oils separate sometimes.

Itch Away

2 oz spray bottle
10 drops Lavender
5 drops Tea Tree
4 drops Frankensince
Witch Hazel to fill

Floor Cleaner

This recipe is for a 20-22 oz refillable spray mop like pictured below

5 drops Lemon
10 drops Germ Fighter (Theives knock off)
Fill rest with distiller water

I use the Rubbermaid reveal mop. It had mixed reviews, but so far it's been worth the $23. I've only had it about a month and some reviews said the sprayer quit working after @ 6 months, so use your own judgement :) Libman makes a brand that's about $20, but I couldn't find many reviews at the quick moment I was looking while standing at Target :)

Homemade Stress Spray

5 drops of Marjoram
5 drops of Bergamot
5 drops of Lavender
5 drops of Geranium
5 drops of Lime
Almond oil or water to fill
2 oz spray bottle

Lime bottle was MIA for photo. Also, make sure you always use a dark bottle to protect the quality of your oils. If you use a clear container, store them in a dark place.

Bye Bye Fever

10 drops Peppermint
10 drops Lemon
10 drops Lavender
add Almond Oil (or carrier oil of choice) to fill roller ball.

Run-No-More

Lemon
Almond oil
Rollerball

1:1 ratio of lemon oil to almond oil. I rub on both sides of my nose and babies' noses to stop runny nose. Has worked for me every time. Be aware using without carrier oil burns the skin a bit, so it is a must for kids. Avoid direct sunlight after using.

Boo Boo Spray

30 tea tree drops
30 lavender drops
30 eucalyptus or frankensince drops
20 geranium drops
Witch hazel

Put oils in 2 oz bottle, fill rest with witch hazel

Tea Tree Oil Cleaning Spray

Easy peasy. Distilled water, a half a cap full of rubbing alcohol (some recipes I've seen say you can use vodka), and a few drops of Tea Tree Oil and you have some powerful anti-bacterial cleaning spray. I think this was a 6 oz. bottle, and I used three drops. Smells good, very natural thus safer for kiddos. It cleans just about anything so far. It's a go-to cleaner in my house. I even use it as the mopping cleaner.

Homemade Bug Spray

This might be the best and easiest thing ever. For every 2 oz. of water, add 25 drops of peppermint essential oil and BAM! Homemade bug off!  It works great too - even here in hot, humid Alabama where mosquitoes are the state bird.

Peppermint oil isn't great for kids, but I spray this diluted spray lightly on their clothes and just a bit on their skin. Peppermint oil may not be good for them, but neither is West Nile Virus, right? Seriously, some websites say that the menthol in the peppermint makes kids stop breathing, but I think when playing outside, they'll probably be too busy to lay down and take a nap and inhale enough to fall into a coma. But, just in case, it's a good idea to rinse off once inside before a nap/bed and change clothes.

Update 5/3/14 - add Lemongrass and Lemon (and Citronella if you have it) to ward off gnats. Those buggers need some extra smells to stay away. 15 drops each.
